The GBMO Ritual

Why should you do a full ritual for an offering? Is it ever really necessary?

To be all the way honest, yes, I sometimes do a full-on ritual. I do a daily ritual, anyhow – a “daily devotional” – but it’s nothing like the full-on ritual. It doesn’t feel quite as amazing, either, but it still gets results. (That’s a topic for another post, though.)

The Mother Of Us All

Let me just say: 2017, was definitely a year of the unexpected.

Not that it was a bad year for me, necessarily … just some unexpected things happened.

Now, granted, I have been fairly open about my political leanings. And you’re smart, so you know what I mean by that statement.

But if we get right down to brass tacks, the fact of the matter is: those unexpected things will likely affect you and I very little. If we’re Witches worth our salt, anyhow.

Ancestor Work Is Cliche

A few years back, white folks started exploring African Traditional Religions, and the Diaspora. I’m sure this was happening before it all came to the fore, but sooner or later, various non-secret practices of the Diaspora came to light within our communities.

Which is fine – every spiritual path deserves exploration.

But, all of a sudden, it’s like every Neo/Pagan in the whole freaking world decided they just had to work with their Ancestors.

4 Mistakes Almost Everyone Makes With Prosperity Magic

This post is part of the Strategic Sorcery Blog Hop. This go-round, our topic is financial/money magick. Just below this paragraph, you’ll find the links to the Previous and Next posts in the list, plus the Master List, itself. I hope you enjoy everyone’s take on money and finances!

I don’t claim to be an expert at money magick. We’re all teachers in some sense, but we’re all also students. And the real truth of it is: money is one of the weirdest, most explosive, and hardest-to-pin topics for a lot of people. There’s always going to be something new to learn about money, and money magick. And our relationship to money magick, and why we think it should be easy and instantaneous. (Self-growth-work: it helps a lot, try it out.)

3 Kinds Of Petitions And How To Use Them

Do you suck at magick with petitions? You, my friend, are not alone. Obviously, if you can write a petition, and you know what works for you, and you don’t have any problems with petition magick, then maybe this particular post isn’t for you.

But the fact is: a lot of people judge themselves harshly when they have trouble writing what would be considered a “good” petition. When you follow all the status quo rules, you sometimes end up blocking yourself. But that’s probably a different post, so on with the show …

The Gift of Hamenight

So just around the bend is what I (and many other Pagans) consider the “new year.” I call it Samhain. Others may call it All Hallow’s Eve, or All Souls Night. Some Traditional “old world” Witches call it Allantide or Hollantide. My great grandmother called it Hamenight, because “hame” means “home,” and at this time of year, you set lights in the windows so your Ancestors can come home and sup with you (as in celebrating with what’s known as a “dumb supper”).

I didn’t spend every Hamenight visiting the mountains and the family. But there were a few. And when we did, there was always a small gift that each of us gave another family member. It was kind of like those coworker gift exchange drawings, but we did it at Hamenight, instead.

Anyhow … that all brings me to this …

How Operative Witchery Was Born

The first few books I read on the Craft, prior to my Initiation, were The New Pagans (Hans Holzer), In The Shadow Of The Shaman (Amber Wolfe), and The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Frost and Frost). And then in 1990, I was Initiated into Feycraft, and was running my first Coven in 1994.

But despite reading, casting spells that actually resulted in achieved goals was a bit of an issue. I was able to cast an effective spell, but the results were generally off somehow. (Except for the very first few that I picked up from my great grandmother.) There was little to no spellcraft training in my Mother Coven – it was all focused on spirituality.
